OUR MISSION STATEMENT. Birdbath Publications is a space where individuals can write about media in a low-stakes environment and have a place where their distinctive voices can be heard. For readers, we seek to create curated, accessible discussions that can open minds to different perspectives and cultural commentary. For writers, we offer a platform that will treat all work with the care and attention of an accredited publication.
OUR SCHEDULE. We publish issues monthly, but will accept submissions on a rolling schedule throughout the month. Feel free to submit whenever and we will likely have your work published by the closest Tuesday or Thursday. You can check our issue calendar (coming soon) to see upcoming issue themes and get writing well in advance. Don’t feel trapped by the issue themes, though – they’re just suggestions, and ultimately you can write whatever you want! If you have ideas for issue themes, you can also suggest them to us.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES. We generally expect written submissions to be at least 300 words and no longer than 2000 words in length, as well as being formatted in the latest AP style, with film, book, and tv show titles italicized. Otherwise you can submit pretty much whatever you want, whenever you want. Keep in mind we may do some minor copy editing to smooth out grammar and punctuation, but your writing should remain largely unchanged. We also accept other forms of media as submissions; podcasts, short films, music, and whatever other creative endeavors you may have are fair game.
STATEMENT ON AI. Birdbath editors will never use AI assistance in our writing. In addition, we will never accept writing that we suspect to be generated by an AI program.
Birdbath is Sienna Axe, Zac Bentz, Levi Homman, Morgan Stone, and Quinn (from online).
